On Sunday, July 8, the 6th Annual Jamaica Day Reggae Festival was held at Anne Arundel County Fairgrounds. Like previous years, the event was fun and family-friendly and featured performances from Reggae giants, local Reggae bands Strykers Posse, Carl Malcolm & The Positive Vibration Band, Jah Werks, and Lenny Kurlou & The All Stars. DJ Glamma Wayne kept the patrons dancing and a vending village completed the atmosphere. Many came out to enjoy performances from legends John Holt, Marcia Griffiths and Glen Washington who all visited Maryland to celebrate Jamaica’s 50th Independence.
A highlight of the event was the award presentation to many who have made significant contributions to the DMV area for many years, including Carl Malcolm, Strykers Posse Reggae Band and many sound systems and DJs. One of the MCs for the evening, Rosie Peppy Parke made a surprise presentation of an award to organizer, Carlos Daley and said “Each year, for the past 6 years, I have watched Carlos work tirelessly to keep the Jamaican flag waving high. Many times, those who are doing the REAL work are overlooked, so I feel it is my duty to award and commend Carlos for all he has done so we can come out and celebrate beautiful days like today.”
